Ray Donovan
Ray Donovan season 6, episode 11 preview: Never Gonna Give You Up
Every action has an equal reaction as Bridget’s kidnapping hits Ray Donovan like a sack of bricks.
Newton’s Third Law is in full bloom on the latest Ray Donovan chapter on Showtime. Every retaliatory gesture receiving a worthy counterpart, morality removed entirely from the equation. Once fast becoming best of friends, Ray and Mac have been pitted against each other, seemingly absent of free will. Lest they lose their families because of decisions undertaken. Choices now falling like dominos with the hefty thud of real life. Rather, they are merely pawns in a game of chess played by modern nobility. Their own lives inconsequential to the nobles’ larger portrait, the bigger picture.
The proxy war between media magnate Sam Winslow and corrupt Mayor Ed Ferrati has left a trail of collateral damage without remorse. A squabble over ownership of a penitentiary for capitalistic gain at its epicenter. Another gem to throw into their pile of beaming success that would make Scrooge McDuck blush.
An eye for an eye at every turn, Lex talionis, the law of talion (retaliation), supposedly considered primitive and outlawed in a civilized society… Revealed to be just lip service. As Ray’s father Mickey Donovan candidly put it, ‘This is war Raymond. They take one of ours, we take one of theirs.’
Bridget Donovan is the world and the stars to her father Ray Donovan, However, to Sam Winslow, she’s a calculated loss for her company’s bottom line, forgotten like a morning cup of coffee. Meanwhile, to Mac, Bridget is a leverage chip for survival in a world gone awry where might means right. Where the winner clicks publish on the narrative with full-editing rights. Just as the audience witnessed with Justine before Bridget. Ray’s worst nightmare and most fragile fear is Bridget becoming Justine #2.
Major Plot Points for tonight’s Ray Donovan episode:
- Mac has taken Bridget Donovan elsewhere after hearing Danny Bianchi has been taken, fearing Ray’s imminent response.
- Bunchy Donovan is in custody but will likely protect his father and not reveal Mickey’s whereabouts.
- Terry Donovan is visited by Agent Ange Howe, who will look to Terry to ‘talk sense’ into his brother.
- It’s clear Terry is not fond of his father, saying ‘the man is a monster’ to Bunchy last episode, telling him to give ‘the old man up.’ Terry will attempt to convince Bunchy to give up Mickey’s location.
- How long can Smitty and Sandy Patrick hold officer Danny Bianchi for? Will Ray really look to go after Bianchi’s wife if Bridget continues to be held by Mac?
- Winslow’s article on Mayor Ed Ferrati is public now. Will the Mayor respond or lay low amidst the blaring spotlight by the media?
Ray Donovan “Never Gonna Give You Up” Sneak Peek:
Agent Ange Howe descends upon Terry’s apartment sensing a structural exploit on the part of Bunchy’s psyche and looking to dig in. In the sneak peek trailer above, Howe approaches Terry with an offer to speak to his brother but really just looking to utilize him as a resource.
It feels like the official branch, the media tycoons, and gray area ‘fixers’ on Ray Donovan operate under the same unspoken set of rules. Laws that are more akin to the motion of water than set in granite. Particularly, when it comes to gaining a psychological advantage on a prized chip in Bunchy. ‘Talking sense’ into Bunchy, equivalent to relinquishing information they ‘earnestly’ want…
Ray Donovan “Never Gonna Give You Up” Preview Trailer
Sandy Patrick attempts to calm down the brooding Smitty in the preview trailer above but will he act out on his own? A minor error by Smitty and Danny Bianchi is gone, leaving the Donovans without any leverage at all… And that’s if Bianchi’s life is valued by Rad at this stage of the game.
Ray appears distraught and lost without Bridget, and displayed glimpses of Liam Neeson in Taken last episode. If anything should happen to Bridget, it’s a sure bet Ray will follow through on his dark promise of vengeance to Bianchi.
Meanwhile, Terry follows through on Agent Ange Howe’s request and visits Bunchy, telling him to ‘give Mick up,’ again calling his father a monster.
Impact Moment Last Episode: Ray and Mickey unite
Last week’s most impactful Ray Donovan moment of the week arrived after news of Bridget’s kidnapping. The sordid event brought father and son back together in true Donovan fashion. Though Ray and Mickey have their share of differences, family will always come first. The reunion made them a force to be reckoned with once again, when going solo had tore each Donovan name apart.
