Monster Hunter film director Paul W.S. Anderson will discuss the upcoming big screen adaption on Wednesday, December 2nd on CapcomUSA’s Twitch channel. The event will stream from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. PST (8:00 pm – 9:00 pm EST).

Joining Anderson will be Monster Hunter game series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and Art & Executive Director Kaname Fujioka. The event will be moderated by 2018 ‘North America Monster Hunter World Champion’ Social Dissonance/SDShepard. SDShepard is also the world record holder in Monster Hunter speedruns. Fan questions will be answered during the stream.

The upcoming film adaption of Monster Hunter will be spearheaded by Resident Evil star Milla Jovovich. Alongside Jovovich will be the cast members Tony Jaa, Tip ‘T.I.’ Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta, Josh Helman, Jin Au-Yeung, and Ron Perlman. Monster Hunter is set to release on December 25, 2020.

The film was written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, produced by Jeremy Bolt, Paul W.S. Anderson, Dennis Berardi, Robert Kulzer, and Martin Moszkowicz. Anderson is well known for the Resident Evil live action movies and is certainly no stranger to video game adaptions, previously directing Mortal Kombat and producing DOA: Dead or Alive.

1995’s Mortal Kombat is the most entertaining video game movie adaption of all time quite frankly. Anderson also directed Event Horizon, Alien vs Predator, Solider, Death Race, and The Three Musketeers. The Three Musketeers notably also stars Milla Jovovich.

Anderson directed all the Resident Evil films including the original picture, Resident Evil: Retribution, Resident Evil: Afterlife, and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.

“Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When an unexpected sandstorm transports Captain Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her unit (TI Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta) to a new world, the soldiers are shocked to discover that this hostile and unknown environment is home to enormous and terrifying monsters immune to their firepower.

In their desperate battle for survival, the unit encounters the mysterious Hunter (Tony Jaa), whose unique skills allow him to stay one step ahead of the powerful creatures. As Artemis and Hunter slowly build trust, she discovers that he is part of a team led by the Admiral (Ron Perlman). Facing a danger so great it could threaten to destroy their world, the brave warriors combine their unique abilities to band together for the ultimate showdown.”

Monster Hunter — from Screen Gems, Constantin Film, Tencent Pictures and Toho — begins its global theatrical rollout in China on December 4 and will make its North American debut on December 25.

In previous years prior to the pandemic Monster Hunter would have easily broken box office records. Nevertheless, Monster Hunter‘s film debut will surely expand the franchise’s fanbase to an even larger audience. Right in time for Monster Hunter Rise’s March 26, 2021 release. Monster Hunter Rise follows World’s successful expansion Monster Hunter World: Iceborne.
