NBA bite size game notes:
Nikola Jokić’s Denver Nuggets defeated the Portland Trailblazers 2-1 in the regular season. However, the Trail Blazers took the win for their final matchup of the season, 132-116. Nuggets star guard Jamal Murray won’t be available for the playoffs following knee surgery. The Nuggets will be without forward Will Barton for the opener against the Trail Blazers, who’s dealing with a strained right hamstring.
Nuggets guard PJ Dozier will also not be available as he’s been dealing with a strained right adductor. Aaron Gordon will be expected to step up in the Playoffs as the game tightens up and defenses swarm Jokic in the post. Nikola Jokić along with Stephen Curry and Joel Embiid are in the running for the NBA’s MVP award this year.
Jokic averaged 26.4 ppg, 10.8 rebounds, and 8.3 assists in the regular season while earning the Nuggets the 3rd seed in the Western Conference. Damian Lillard’s Portland Trail Blazers won 10 of 12 games to close out the season, losing only to the West’s 2nd seed Phoenix Suns and the East’s 5th seed Atlanta Hawks.
Lillard is averaging 28.8 ppg, 4.2 rebounds, and 7.5 assists this season. The second highest scoring average of Lillard’s career behind only his 30.0 ppg last year. The Trail Blazers lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the Playoffs last year, who the Nuggets also fell to in the Western Conference Finals.
