Michael Porter Jr. is probable for Game 3 tonight, which is good news for the Denver Nuggets. Porter Jr. has been dealing with back issues that arose in Game 1 of this playoff series. Nuggets forward Will Barton returned in Game 2 and scored 10 points along with three assists in 16 minutes.

Only two Nugget starters scored in double figures in Game 2, Nikola Jokic (24 points) & Michael Porter Jr (11 points). Off the Nuggets bench Paul Millsap added in 11 points along with Barton’s 10. In comparison every Suns starter was in double figures in Game 2.

The Phoenix Suns simply shot the three point ball better than the Denver Nuggets in Game 2, 47.4% to 32.6%. At one point the Suns led by 31 points in Game 2 and even outscored the Nuggets in the pain 44-36. The Nuggets also had woes at the free throw line where they shot 60% compared to the Suns’ 88.2%. They missed out on eight points by not converting at the charity stripe.

Nikola Jokic is averaging 23 points a game in the first two compared 33 points a game against the Trail Blazers. His assist numbers have stayed consistent in both rounds, 4.5, while his rebounding is holding steady at 11 a game. Jokic actually shot 52.9% last game so it’s not a matter of a bad shooting night. The Nuggets naturally have less of a scoring punch without Jamal Murray and all of the burden is falling on Jokic at the moment.

Aaron Gordon had a successful Game 1 individually, scoring 18 points. Gordon can’t have 6 point shooting nights like in Game 2 if the Nuggets are going to stave off a potential 0-3 hole in this Suns series. It wasn’t that long ago that Aaron Gordon was averaging 17.6 points a game on the Orlando Magic in the 2017-18 season.
