NBA bite size game notes:
Brooklyn Nets superstar James Harden will remain out for Game 4, however Jeff Green has been officially upgraded to questionable. Green has been dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left foot since the first round. Meanwhile, Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie is rumored to be returning to the rotation if the Nets reach the Finals. A lofty proposition for most teams but probably not the Nets.
The Milwaukee Bucks managed to edge out the Brooklyn Nets almost entirely because of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton in Game 3. The star duo combined for 68 of the Bucks’ 86 points in their 86-83 victory.
Blake Griffin only got 5 shots in Game 3 despite playing 30 minutes, way up from the first round. The Nets need to utilize Griffin’s offensive talent more like in Game 1, it will only open the court up more for Durant and Irving.
Neither team shot well from three point range in Game 3. The Nets shot 8 of 32 (25%) while the Bucks shot 6 of 31 (19.4%). NBA teams need to stop being so dependent on shots beyond the arch in general. Kawhi Leonard has shown that the two point mid-range shot is not obsolete in the least.
At one point in Game 3, the Bucks led by 21 points. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton will need more offensive help in Game 4. Defenses will collapse on them if they continue to be the only scoring options for the Bucks. Starter PJ Tucker for example had 0 points in Game 3.
While Tucker has always been known for outstanding defense… His three point shot opened the lanes in Houston. Tucker might need the ball more to assert himself. He shot only four shots in Game 3.
The Bucks languished behind the Nets at the free throw line despite have more opportunities. Milwaukee converted 12 of 19 free throws for a 63.2% clip. Compare that state to Brooklyn’s 7 of 8 free throws made on a 87.5% clip. The margin for error is very low against this Nets team who can rally offensively at any time. Every free throw counts, especially down the stretch.
