Sixers forward Danny Green is expected to miss 2-3 weeks with a calf strain in his right leg. It’s likely Shake Milton will soak up much of Green’s minutes in his absence. Milton stepped up in Game 2 to potentially save the 76ers season. That Atlanta Hawks primarily lost Game 3 over the three-point shot. They scored only 6 of 23 three-pointers, a 26.1% clip, compared to the Sixers’ 10 of 21 (47.6%).

The dependence on the three-point shot is frankly an epidemic in the NBA. Players need to study more tape of Kawhi Leonard and Chris Paul’s two point mid-range game and catch up in games the hard way. These quick fix threes usually lead to fast breaks on the other side of court and only dig the hole further. As the old Southern saying goes, “If you’re already in a hole, stop digging.” The Sixers led by as many as 22 points at one point in the game.

The Sixers’ Joel Embiid had 27 points on 50% shooting, 8 assists, 9 boards, 3 blocks, and a steal in Game 3. Meanwhile, the Hawks’ franchise star Trae Young had 28 points on 52.9% shooting, 8 assists, and 2 steals. Coincidentally, Young shot 50% from beyond the arch. So he should be one of the few Hawks along with Bogdan Bogdanovic that should have the green light.

Even then, the three point shot needs to be scaled back in the league significantly. This isn’t a Hawks centered issue. The whole NBA has fallen in love with the three point shot these playoffs. You live by the three pointer, you lose when it’s not hitting.

The Hawks are winning the game at the free throw line, scoring 27 of 32 compared to the 76ers’ 25 of 39. But they’re obviously getting in foul trouble, sending the 76ers to the free throw line almost 40 times last game. Eventually, the Sixers will start capitalizing more on these free throw opportunities if given the chance. If the Hawks don’t even out the series tonight, the Sixers will lead this playoff series 3-1.
