Disgaea 6: Misedor Dub voice acting by SungWon Cho Excellent
The Disgaea 6 English Dub of his royal richness King Misedor by voice actor SungWon Cho is top tier. A standout comedic performance. Perfectly capturing a nuanced satire of elitism.
This Disgaea 6 voice acting review contains spoilers for the first 2 chapters.
The Disgaea 6 Dub is entertaining all around but SungWon Cho’s Misedor deserves a center stage spotlight. SungWon Cho manages to key in with precision on a portrayal of Misedor teetering between arrogant, entitled aristocrat and a spiritual heir to the WWE’s Ted DiBiase.
Misedor, the king of the human world, is introduced early on in Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny as a man of immense means. Just like the infamous DiBiase, Misedor believes that every person (and zombie) has a price. As such, Misedor is fully enamored with the idea of money as the only true source of power governing the universe.
Disgaea 6’s title ‘Defiance of Destiny’ is more than just a cool sounding bold headline. It’s a central tenant of most of the cast’s plot trajectory.
Though hilariously pompous and vain, Misedor secretly grows bored of delegating his life to others like Hero Yarmada. Thus, Misedor seeks to relive his life early on. Resurrecting stronger just like Zed himself.
SungWon Cho’s voice acting captures Misedor’s exterior shield as a wealthy oligarch while letting hints of naive goodness float to the surface occasionally. This is most noticeable in the early chapters when he expresses genuine disappointment at Yarmada’s fall from grace.
Almost entirely debasing the foundations of the hero Misedor once agreed to fund.
Trademark Humor
The long running series has never been shy about parodying RPG norms and the sixth (or 7th if you include D2) iteration is no different. Misedor’s reveal of a wallet full of golden bills is “Super Effective” on Zed and Cerberus alike as you can see in the below screenshot.
Voice Actors’ Chemistry with co-stars Brandon Winckler, Jason Marnocha
Though voice actors are rarely recording together in the same room for localized Dubs. Brandon Winckler and Jason Marnocha have great in-game chemistry with SungWon Cho’s Misedor. Zed kind of channels an early version of Laharl in the first two chapters while Cerberus is the calming force trying to reason with Zed. Cerberus is somewhat akin to Fenrich’s voice portrayal but with a deeper tone.
From the moment the trio of Zed, Cerberus, and Misedor meet in-game… You can tell 2021 NIS America made the right choice for Disgaea 6’s Dub voice acting. The game also drops hints of ulterior motives on Misedor’s side, unknown to Zed and Cerberus of a deeper plot to his generosity…
This early voice acting review is based on the (USA) Nintendo Switch edition of ‘Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny’ published by NIS America. The tactical RPG video game will officially release on June 29, 2021 by Nippon Ichi Software.
