NBA bite size playoff game notes:
The injuries keep piling up for the Los Angeles Clippers. Not only will Kawhi Leonard not be available for Game 5 but center Ivica Zubac is now questionable with an MCL sprain in his right knee.
Reports are coming out that Leonard is not happy with the LA Clippers’ medical staff either behind the scenes… Suns guard Abdel Nadar is probable for Game 5.
Paul George’s WCF free throw woes were back in Game 4, going 12 of 18 from the charity stripe. Considering Game 4 was decided by 4 points, 80-84, George can not be missing six free throws.
Especially, considering how well he was shooting from the free throw line in the first two rounds. George is a career 84.7% free throw shooter and shot 86.8% in the regular season. He was averaging 91.9% from the free throw line against the Dallas Mavericks and 84.4% against the Utah Jazz.
George is somehow averaging 72.5% this playoff series. He’s always contributing in other ways like grabbing 16 rebounds for the LA Clippers last game. However, the stakes are high and there’s no margin of error for six missed free throws.
Deandre Ayton was the big story of Game 4, scoring 19 points and grabbing a whopping 22 rebounds along with 4 blocks. Phoenix Suns star guard Devin Booker scored 25 points of his own, including going 9 of 11 from the free throw line.
Chris Paul’s shooting is not back to form yet, as he went 6 of 22 from the field for 18 points and 7 assists. But you have to imagine Paul won’t have too many more so-so shooting games this playoff series… And the Suns still got the win anyway.
The LA Clippers’ Terance Mann came off the bench for 12 points last game while Reggie Jackson scored 20. Jackson had an uncharacteristic game from the field, going 2 of 9 from beyond the arch and 8 of 24 overall. One wonders if DeMarcus Cousins will get more run tonight if Zubac can’t go.
Marcus Morris Sr. has been dealing with left knee soreness this series and will need to be rested for some of the game. The Clippers can not let a lead evaporate in the closing moments of the fourth quarter again.
This is a potential closeout game in the Western Conference Finals. It’s win or go home time with the NBA Finals on the line.
