NBA bite size game notes:
The Phoenix Suns will be without backup center Dario Saric for the rest of the NBA Finals games as he has a torn ACL in his right knee. The injury happened in Game 1 of the Milwaukee Bucks series. The Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo will be available for Game 2 tonight. Antetokounmpo recently commented that before his MRI he thought he might be out for a year.
Giannis finished with 20 points and grabbed 17 rebounds fresh off the injury.
One of the big stories of Game 1 was the Phoenix Suns’ ability to force Bucks turnovers (19) through 9 steals…. Resulting in 20 fast break points. At one point the Suns lead was 20 points. The Suns had 4 starters in double figures, and three players who scored over 20 points a piece. Chris Paul was the game’s leading scorer with 32 points and 9 assists on 63.2% FG.
Khris Middleton was Game 1’s second highest scorer with 29 points for the Bucks. Middleton went 5 of 12 from beyond the arch but it would not be enough. Brook Lopez was tasked too often with having to pick up Paul and Devin Booker on the perimeter and the Bucks paid the price. Devin Booker scored 27 points, while Deandre Ayton scored 22 points on 80% shooting from the field.
The Fine Print
Bucks guard Jrue Holiday struggled from the field, scoring 4 of 14 for 10 points while Brook Lopez had 17 on 50% FG. Jae Crowder had an uncharacteristic rough game from the field, missing all his shots while Mikal Bridges had a solid 14 points on 5 of 13.
The Suns were almost perfect from the free throw line, shooting 96.2% FT. At the same time the Bucks struggled from the free throw line greatly, shooting 56.3% FT. Converting only 9 of 16 trips to the charity stripe.
