Fantasia Award Winning Film ‘Dreams on Fire’ to play in NYC
Fantasia Canadian Feature Film Audience Award Winner ‘Dreams on Fire’ will screen for one night in New York City at Cinema Village on October 22nd.
Director Philippe McKie’s underground dance magnum opus featuring star Bambi Naka’s hypnotic feature debut is heading to the Big Apple! For one night only, the New People Cinema Club will host a screening at arthouse theater Cinema Village on Friday, October 22 at 5:00 pm.
The Japanese urban dance film loosely adapted Bambi Naka’s own rise in the dance scene with lead character Yume moving to Tokyo to make it big. The feature film is an unapologetic, raw look at what it takes to make a living out of an art form.
Canadian filmmaker Philippe McKie will be attending the screening and participate in a Q & A session after the film. MC Jonte’ Moaning has been announced as a special guest.
About the film’s plot & subject matter
Discover the collapse of meritocracy as Bambi Naka’s Yume is rejected at auditions not for talent but for lacking the prerequisite social media followers. Outshining through competition alone… A thing of the past.
You’ll see Yume subjected to emotional blackmail by her boss in the hostess world… All while simultaneously meeting people that make her dreams come true like co-star Okuda Saki’s Sakura at the very same location.
Dreams on Fire won the Best Canadian Feature Film Audience Award at the Fantasia International Film Festival this past summer. Deservingly so, it’s an absolute must see picture with a breakout performance by lead in the film Bambi Naka. Not to mention, top notch sound design and a sleek look at modern dance styles & living in Japan.
