EXCLUSIVE: Hilarie Burton is confirmed to return as Lucille Smith on The Walking Dead Season 11 Episode 23. Lucille will potentially be in a hallucination scene ala Alpha & Carol, Merle & Daryl, and The Governor & Tyreese (minus walker bite). Or a simple, old school flashback for Negan.
According to a reliable source, The Natural Aristocrat has learned actress Hilarie Burton will return to reprise Lucille Smith on the second half of The Walking Dead’s final season. The Walking Dead Season 11 Episode 23 will be the second to last episode of the series to ever air.
Although Negan himself will return on upcoming TWD spinoff Isle of the Dead alongside Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan). It’s very likely Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s real life wife will also reprise Lucille Smith on Isle of the Dead in the future.
Hilarie Burton last appeared on the critically acclaimed “Here’s Negan” TWD episode that aired on April 4, 2021. The episode was part of an extended run for Season 10 post finale.

Flashback: “Here’s Negan” revealed Lucille Smith considering taking Negan out long before Rick Grimes at the dining room table… After discovering he’d been cheating on her on the same day she received her cancer diagnosis.
Negan Smith was quite a departure from the Negan we met in The Walking Dead’s Season 7 premiere. Being more keen to play video games than the ruthless leader of Sanctuary.
After learning of Lucille’s cancer diagnosis, Negan promised he’d return to her with supplies to save her. But it was all for naught. Negan was accosted out in the field, losing precious last moments with his wife.
This led to Negan Smith’s transformation into the Negan that Rick Grimes’ group came to know as the leader of the Saviors. Negan named a barbwire bat Lucille posthumously and grew to believe his wife was still always at his side…
What will Lucille Smith have to say Negan on TWD Season 11 Episode 23? We know Negan is not going the way of Tyreese with a walker bite based on the upcoming Isle of the Dead. But a close to death hallucination like Alpha and Carol Peletier is possible or even a simple one reminiscent of Merle and Daryl.
One thing’s for certain, for a series with the most character deaths maybe ever on a TV show, it’s never too late to return.
