Mizuhara knocked on Kazuya’s door at the end of Rent-a-Girlfriend Episode 24, her life in shambles. She’d watched a fellow actress get chosen ahead of her for the umpteenth time as her dreams leap ever out of reach.

Her grandma Sayuri’s health is deteriorating and the dark specter of becoming an orphan weighs heavily on her heart.

Though she’d thought lowly of her grandfather’s boundless optimism in her youth, now it’s what she desires the most.

Though Mizuhara feels she’s a fool to let herself believe in Kazuya’s ‘pie in the sky’ optimism about her acting career. It hurts more not to believe.

Kazuya promises the world to Mizuhara, telling her about his fundraising plans to make a movie starring her happen.

Now all that’s left for Kazuya is to work through the realities of making such a commitment.

Even with his ‘star’ attached to the project, the uphill battle has only began going into Rent-a-Girlfriend’s Season 3 premiere.
Suspicious Ruka

Ruka feels something is off as Kazuya’s mind is preoccupied at work. The lingering notion that it’s Mizuhara again won’t let go. Ruka has committed herself to winning over Kazuya from Mizuhara no matter what happens.

The energetic Ruka believes in her heart of hearts that Kazuya is the only one for her. She’s openly confronted all competition last season except Sumi. But even Kazuya is unaware of Sumi’s secret feelings towards him.
Will Mami fully expose Mizuhara?

Mami has made it clear to Mizuhara that she wants her to back off of Kazuya. Despite being his ex-girlfriend, Mami feels Mizuhara is hurting Kazuya by lingering around as a ‘Rent-a-Girlfriend’.
Though Mizuhara has previously touted what a great guy Kazuya is and that Mami should give him another chance… Mami told Mizuhara that her unclear feelings toward Kazuya are none of her business, the same with her broken relationship.
Mami has already been suspicious last season once she spotted a bag (she felt was Mizuhara’s) at Kazuya’s apartment. If she finds out the full extent of their current relationship, she might go ballistic.
Season 2 Finale dived into Mizuhara’s past

We learned Mizuhara’s grandma Sayuri was actually a great actress herself… And that she’s the inspiration behind Mizuhara wanting to live that dream.

During her youth, Mizuhara constantly took her grandfather Katsuhito’s optimism for granted. Scoffing at his advice and seeing him as a foolish man of sorts. Though good-natured and well meaning.

After Mizuhara’s grandfather was involved in a major car accident, he was sent to an emergency room.
Despite shoving away deceptive optimism all the years prior… Mizuhara decided to believe if she prayed hard enough at a shrine her grandfather would survive. She took off her shoes and ran up and down the stairs praying relentlessly.

But it was not to be… However, right before passing, Chizuru’s grandfather told her that her dreams will come true with his final breath on this earth.

This was the turning point in Mizuhara’s life where she decided internally she would not give up on acting. Now it’s up to Kazuya to give Chizuru the hope she needs in a world where dreams go topsy turvy every day.

Until now, both Kazuya and Chizuru’s grandmas are none the wiser about how the two first met to begin their relationship. We’ll find out soon if this continues to be the case in Season 3.
