Warning: This Lopez vs. Memories recap contains spoilers for ‘Lopez vs Lopez’ Season 3 Episode 11.
Every memory has a lie attached, sometimes the truth just can’t be patched. Enter the requests of George’s baby girl Mayan for her childhood videos. George claims he lost them but really he can’t face them.
Or rather their ‘parent’… A padlocked storage unit containing not only Mayan’s cherished childhood but George’s own tarnished one.
George’s memories kept strictly under lock and key, for fear they might jump their sentence and go free. In this case, George’s courthouse sentenced Mayan’s grandma, his madre Elsa (played by Taerri Hoyos) to the ultimate penalty. Non-existence, death… At least to him.
A pair of bolt cutters affectionately called George’s ‘storage key’ would accidentally bring about Elsa’s return like sunburn. The storage unit itself, empty except a bare mattress, the memories had flown the coop… But a phone call from the storage’s security team about George’s break in, would make Elsa reawaken.
Elsa shows up on the Lopez family doorstep with Mayan’s lost childhood held fully intact in a cardboard box thought missing. A treasure chest lost and found, Mayan asks her father about the unknown woman holding Mayan’s prized memories on VHS tapes.
The answer, a gateway into George’s inner psyche… The madre he forgot, because she forgot him first.
Before Elsa’s return, George had presented Mayan a lighthearted Muppets / Sesame Street style puppet show he’d newly made in place of her childhood videos. Even though they couldn’t replace the irreplaceable, Mayan appreciated her father’s sentiment.
The Lopez Muppet representation of her first bike ride without training wheels took a slightly dark turn with George and Rosie bickering in it. Ominous of their future separation even in the happy days, nostalgia-glasses aren’t just a phrase.
Meanwhile, Rosie decided to seek out a ‘nice’ guy because of a podcast by a 27 year old woman. Despite the man’s good intentions and steady job, Rosie felt no sizzle. Quinten advised the man, his district manager at the Apple store he works at, to act more like a ‘bad boy’ on the second date.
However, mentions of D & D, marching band, and his choice of drink on the first date quickly brought the idea to a fizzle. Rosie saw through the charade and left… Only to give Roberto another chance the next day.
