On the last episode of Food Wars!, the Council of Ten revealed its newest #9 seed, Akira Hayama! Leaving his humble beginnings (alongside Jun Shiomi) at the Shiomi/Hayama Seminar in the rear view window, Akira believes in Central & Azami Nakiri’s direction for Tōtsuki. Akira, as confident as ever, challenged Sōma Yukihira for a rematch, which was immediately accepted.
Bear Meat would be the focal point of the dish, and Sōma struggled to cover up the smell of it while testing trial dishes. Calling the smell ‘rancid.’ An unlikely helper, former rival Terunori Kuga showed up to assist Sōma with his spice knowledge deficiencies. However, more to help Sōma realize he would never match Akira’s already natural ability to match the perfect spice. Instead, Sōma would have to make the dish his own just like Akira would make a dish only he could create.
Sōma would have a hunter take him and Kuga on a hike up in the mountains to investigate the real surroundings of a Bear. The hike literally beared fruit, berries traditionally used for medicinal purposes seemed to have the answers Sōma needed. While Sōma’s dish managed to impress Kuga & his servants, Akira would barge in and presented his take. Kuga’s servants were left speechless just at the refined, delicious smell of Akira’s dish, surpassing Sōma’s work without even a taste.
It was clear that at this point, Sōma is outmatched and will have to catch up rapidly to defeat Akira. Kuga, made mention this episode to Rindō Kobayashi, that he is no longer part of the Elite Ten Council. So he owes them nothing…
The rebels are in high spirits, but they’re all up against the Elite Ten. Soma cannot afford to worry about his friends and must concentrate on his own match.
The rebels have been effortlessly separated by Central. Their morale will be weakened without the power of numbers. Every day there’s a new unfair twist, an iron wrench thrown full-force their way with precision to stop their journey at Tōtsuki. Can they keep defeating the system against all odds?
