The Los Angeles Clippers hit their stride in the second quarter last game, outscoring the Denver Nuggets 38-20 on their way to a 127-97 blowout victory. Will the Nuggets bounce back in Game 2 or did coming back from a 3-1 deficit last series wear them out? Watch an NBA live stream of Game 2 online at TNTDrama.com!
Game 1 saw the Clippers shooting a scorching 57.1% FG to the Nuggets’ 42.2% FG, the Nuggets had significantly more attempts from the free throw line but just couldn’t convert. They shot a collective 66.7% FT on 18 of 27 compared to the Clippers’ 82.4% FT on 14 of 17. All those wasted point opportunities from the charity stripe couldn’t have helped. The Clippers outrebounded the Nuggets 49 to 47 (including 36-28 in defensive rebounds). When it comes to points in the paint, the Clippers had 66 to the Nuggets’ 40. Clearly, the Clippers are driving in at will.
Kawhi Leonard had a game high 29 points on a ultra efficient 12 of 16 shooting. Meanwhile, on the other side of the floor the Nuggets’ Nikola Jokić had 15 points on 6 of 14, no other Nuggets player scored more than the teens. Right now, it seems Luka Dončić’s Dallas Mavericks were either a significantly better team than the Nuggets, or the Nuggets’ fuel tank is on E after having to climb back against the Utah Jazz to save their season.
The Nuggets can’t be missing 9 free throws against an elite team like the Clippers if they expect to win this series. Of course, Game 1 was still just Game 1 in the NBA Playoffs… Anything can happen. Perhaps, the Nuggets’ fortunes change for the better this game.Paul George had a solid 19 point game on 6 of 13 last game, it appears George’s temporary scoring woes are over. He’s shaping back into form which is more bad news for the Nuggets in this second round NBA Playoff series.
