Heat vs Pelicans: Game Night Availability

The New Orleans Pelicans’ new starting center Steven Adams is questionable for tonight’s NBA preseason game with left hamstring soreness according to NBA.com. Shooting guards Eric Bledsoe and JJ Redick are also officially out with ‘medical protocol’ listed as the reason.

Pelicans rookie power forward Wenyen Gabriel is also out for tonight’s Heat matchup with right knee/quadriceps tendinosis). Zion Williamson, Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram are all slated to play in tonight’s preseason game.

This will be Coach Stan Van Gundy’s first game as the Head Coach of the New Orleans Pelicans. While unlikely to happen tonight, it will be interesting to see Adams adapt to a new role. Adams played for the Oklahoma City Thunder his whole NBA career.

The Miami Heat’s Goran Dragic should be available but might come off the bench as Coach Erik Sploestra looks to ease him back. Dragic tore his left plantar fascia in Game 1 of the 2020 NBA Finals. The Heat will look to play it safe and not play Dragic heavy minutes to start the season.

Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Duncan Robinson, Myers Leonard, Tyler Herro, Andre Iguodala, Kelly Olynyk and the rest of the squad should all be available.

NBA Preseason Trade Hype

There’s been rampant speculation that James Harden might join the Miami Heat in a trade that would likely include Heat forward Tyler Herro. However, the Rockets are still fielding offers from across the league, not just the Heat. Particularly, after Harden commented that he’d prefer a fresh start rather than just fresh teammates. It’s looking like the John Wall trade will not be enough to placate Harden to remain on the Houston Rockets.

Jimmy Butler recently liked an Instagram post suggesting Harden is open to join the Heat… But humorously denied as such. Butler claimed he liked the post because of Harden’s hairstyle and beard, thus evading potential tampering complications. Butler did mention on ESPN’s The Jump that ‘James is a friend of his’ and he ‘just wants him to be happy.’
