Tonight’s Washington Wizards matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers is confirmed to be postponed due to the NBA’s Health and Safety protocols for COVID-19. Russell Westbrook is unlikely to have returned for tonight’s Cavs game even if it wasn’t postponed.
The Wizards are not about to put their season in potential jeopardy after Thomas Bryant’s injury. They’re bringing along Westbrook gradually and have also not played the star point guard in any back-to-back games this season.
Speaking in terms of NBA Fantasy stats, Westbrook’s triple doubles have been consistent on the Wizards… But his turnovers are the highest they’ve been since the 2016-2017 regular season at 5.3 turnovers a game. Westbrook’s field goal percentage is also the lowest it’s been in the regular season since rookie year.
Last year on the Houston Rockets, Westbrook averaged 27.2 points per game on a 47.2 FG% clip. He’s currently averaging 19.3 points per game and actually taking less shots than last year. Westbrooks assists however, are the highest they’ve been since the 2018-19 regular season at 11.3 assists a game. Rebounds comparable to past years at 9.3 boards a game.
Of course, all this being said, this NBA season is still young and things could change quite quickly. It’s unlikely you’ll see Westbrook in a back-to-back game this season though unless it’s a playoff entry decider. You should prepare your NBA Fantasy teams accordingly based on this. Always check out any helpful waiver wire pickups to supplement those missed games over the course of the season.
The Washington Wizards are currently ranked 14th in the East with a 3 win, 8 loss record. The Houston Records who acquired former Wizards star point guard John Wall in a trade this summer have fared similarly out in the West with a 4 win, 7 loss record. Obviously, their circumstances have been a bit different considering the Harden trade request looming over the season.
Tonight’s postponed game against the Cleveland Cavaliers follows Sunday and Friday’s Wizards games also being postponed.
