It’s win or go home day for both teams at STAPLES Center as the Utah Jazz awaits the winner… Likely an energy depleted winner. Kawhi Leonard went off for 45 points in Game 6 on a scorching 72% FG, including shooting 55.6% from beyond the arch. Luka Doncic scored 29 points on 45.8% FG along with 11 assists. Notably, Doncic had his free throw shooting under control going 5 of 5, a good sign for Game 7 where every point could be pivotal.
Luka Doncic is averaging 34 points, 9.7 assists, 8 rebounds, and 1.5 steals through the series. Kawhi Leonard is averaging 32.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block in the first six games of this playoff series. While the two franchise players will decide the direction this series will ultimately land… Tim Hardaway Jr., Kristaps Porzingis, Paul George, and Reggie Jackson’s play in Game 7 will be a massive determining factor for the winner.
Tim Hardaway Jr. had one of his best games this series in Game 6, scoring a confident 23 points at home on 47.4% FG. Paul George shot 40% FG in the Clippers’ Game 6 win for 20 points but took down 13 rebounds. Coach Rick Carlisle should look more to Luka’s 2 man game with center Boban Marjanović. The Clippers seem to have issues anytime Luka passes it down-low to Boban, usually for a mismatch. Thus, drawing fouls and opening three point opportunities organically for the Dallas Mavs.
Kristaps Porzingis also needs to score more and generally shoot more shots, he went 3 for 7 for 7 points in Game 6… And 3 of 6 for eight points in the Mavs’ game five win. Porzingis cannot be scoring in single figures, this creates more defensive pressure and doubling on Luka Doncic. Tim Hardaway Jr. has mostly stepped up as the Dallas Mavericks’ number 2 scorer in this Clippers series but Porzingis should be competing for it.
