The Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid is questionable for Game 5 with an injured knee. While it’s expected Embiid will play, considering Kawhi Leonard’s current ACL scare, teams might be more cautious with their franchise cornerstones. The Hawks’ Trae Young is probable for Game 5 with right shoulder soreness, which is said to be fairly minor by his account.
Many superstars who played in the bubble playoffs last season have fallen to injury in these NBA Playoffs. LeBron James recently tweeted that the league should have given a longer layoff, despite the business aspects. James also wasn’t happy with the play-in games for the 7th and 8th seed leading up to the current run of NBA playoff games.
It’s certainly not the same to watch the NBA playoffs without each team’s rosters playing at full capacity… But injuries in the game do happen every season and change the trajectory of the game. Nothing is ever set in stone. The healthiest team at the end of the season always has an advantage. The game lives based on that fact.
Embiid told reporters he didn’t “have lift” due to his knee injury in Game 4, despite picking up 21 rebounds. The franchise center went an uncharacteristic 4 of 20 in Game 4 with 4 turnovers. However, Embiid went 8 for 8 at the free throw line.
When it comes to the pivotal free throw column, the Hawks converted 17 of 21 shots for 81% FT in Game 4. While the 76ers converted 15 of 21 shots for 71.4% FT. The 76ers turned over the ball 12 times compared to the Hawks last game. So they need to take better care of the ball moving forward if they expect to advance in the Playoffs. Especially, with Trae Young looking to be on a mission.
The Hawks’ Cam Reddish has been cleared to play but is still out for Game 5. Meanwhile, Hawks forward De’Andre Hunter underwent surgery for his lateral meniscus and expected to be back for training camp next season.
