NBA bite size game notes:
Brooklyn Nets superstar James Harden will be available for Game 7 tonight despite the slow progress of his hamstring injury. Although Harden didn’t look anywhere close to 100% in Game 6, he still played big minutes. Harden played 40 and 46 minutes in the last two playoff games, averaging 10.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 7.5 assists. If Harden can deliver even 80% of his usual play pre-injury, the NBA odds go into the Nets favor.
Kevin Durant is averaging 33.3 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 5.3 assists through the first games of this Bucks matchup. Kyrie Irving remains out for Game 7 with a right ankle sprain. However, Irving will likely be able to return should the Nets advance further to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Meanwhile, Joe Harris is averaging 9.5 points, 3 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in the first 6 games. Shooting 30.9% from the three point line compared to 50.4% in the Celtics series. Joe Harris hasn’t scored in double figures since the first two games of this playoff series. The Brooklyn Nets also had an uncharacteristic night at the free throw line, converting 8 of 14 for 57.1% FT compared to the Bucks’ 23 of 28 at the free throw line for 82.1% FT.
The Milwaukee Bucks’ Khris Middleton had a career night in the playoffs, scoring 38 points along with 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals! Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 34 points in Game 6, pulled down 12 rebounds, dished 4 assists, blocked 2 shots, and added a steal.
In addition to PJ Tucker’s stellar defense, Tucker scored 13 points, grabbed 7 boards and picked up an assist and a steal last game. Neither the Bucks or Nets shot well from beyond the arch, with Brooklyn going 9 of 30 for 30% and the Bucks scoring just 7 of 33 for 21.2%. Too much dependency on the three point line. It seemed the Nets were going to Durant for an ISO on almost every possession in the second half of Game 6 as well. Making the Nets’ play predictable to watch for the opposing coaching staff.
Nets Coach Steve Nash doesn’t have much time to experiment with different rotations this late, going with a six man rotation recently. With only Landry Shamet off the bench. However, as Tyronn Lue has proved, sometimes experimenting with different lineups is key to winning a playoff series.
