This ‘Lopez vs Lopez’ Season 1 Finale recap contains spoilers for “Lopez vs Last Call”
Rosie is beside herself as Chance reveals his grandfather George is his hero! Entirely, shellshocked Rosie is at a loss of words for the first time. Meanwhile, George’s final hour of a Peacock streaming trial is interrupted by Mayan bringing up his drunken’ escapades from the night before.
George had been captured on the neighbor’s ring cam messing with the door and order a 12 piece set of wings. Mayan and Rosie come up with a scheme to make George see a doctor to convince him he needs to be in better health. Since normally George would refuse, Rosie claims it’s for insurance purposes for his moving business.
Much to the surprise of Mayan and really the whole family, George is not just in good health, but in tip top excellent health. Mayan then admits she’s been watering down his drinks, leading to George’s classic catch phrase “I can’t do nuthin’ in this house.”
George tells Oscar the real reason he’s annoyed is because Mayan is reminding him of his own childhood. He’d been protecting her from the truth of his young life, where George was taken from his mother by child protection services due to her drinking. George ends up falling and hitting his head when he leaves the bar and Oscar calls Mayan to the hospital…
Where Quinten reveals he’d been the one to give blood to George in a transfusion. George doesn’t look pleased at all.
The Lopez family stage an intervention to get George to quit drinking. Every actor here actually gives an elaborate dramatic, serious monologue.
A departure from the usual comedic stylings (punch lines) of the show. Mayan’s speech felt especially impassioned.
But it’s Chance who steals the show! His imitation of George is priceless, and you can tell the whole cast genuinely had a hard time keeping from laughing. Chance is the one that ultimately convinces George he needs to stop drinking to be a better role model.
* Earlier by the way, Chance tells Rosie that even though George is his hero, she’ll always be his angel.
George makes a familiar friend in ‘Calvin’ at his A.A meeting… Snopp Dogg! Who invites him to smoke in his truck. All part of the 12 step program in George’s words!
