This Snowpiercer Season 3 Finale recap contains spoilers for Episode 10 “The Original Sinners”.
The Snowpiercer S3 finale episode is proof that first thought should always be considered the best thought. The post-apocalyptic series was onto something last week when Melanie exposed Andre Layton for his New Eden lie.
Fans were heralding Melanie’s return as the best episode of Season 3 after her surprise announcement twist. The show pushed forward with aligning Melanie with Mr. Wilford initially on tonight’s episode… Only to backtrack entirely on Melanie as a villain or ‘monster’ as she called herself.
Melanie Cavill and Joseph Wilford together was an intriguing formula, it just worked, there were multiple layers to it. Particularly with Wilford wanting to dangle Zarah and Layton’s daughter as bait as he had with Alex prior.
Instead Melanie decided to call Layton and split Snowpiercer to those who want to stay with her and those who want to maintain course to ‘New Eden’ with Layton… All while sending the ‘big bad man’ Mr. Wilford away for good. Melanie even let Alex leave to New Eden like she was going on a simple field trip, packing away extra socks (yes this was a line said on tonight’s Snowpiercer episode).
It was implied Mr. Wilford had some wild card, ace in the hole when he typed something on a keyboard after being sent away in Melanie’s rescue transport. But nothing came to pass at least on Snowpiercer’s Season 3 Finale.
There was barely any pushback on Layton’s lie to start the finale… The Tail fully uniting around Layton without seconds of his haphazard explanation. Javi was angry at Layton’s lie to start the episode only to become the engineer leading half the train to New Eden to end the episode.
Audrey seemed emotionally moved by Wilford’s kiss only to betray him momentarily later. Already in love with Bess… LJ died doing the eyeball trick she was fond of while being lightly nudged by someone off screen and choking on it. All that buildup of her husband Oz leaving her for such a quick death.
Boki returned as the new ‘ice man’ impervious to pain, seemingly on Wilford’s side… Only to be spotted on the train heading to New Eden to end the episode despite being hit by Ruth earlier on and chasing her.
Javi and Alex led Layton’s group to New Eden, a lake nestled between snowcapped mountains. It was warm enough to leave the train without any special equipment even.
Snowpiercer’s Season 3 Finale would conclude with Melanie seeing some type of warning shot or explosion in the air ‘three months later’. Leaving a mystery for Season 4… Yet, the combination of Melanie and Wilford uniting together was the real money left on the table. Sometimes it’s good to be bad.
