Exclusive Photos: Anime NYC was honored with the Consul General’s Commendation for its important role in promoting Japanese culture in New York City on December 13, 2023.

Anime NYC founder Peter Tatara and his successor MK Goodwin accepted the award on Anime NYC’s behalf from Ambassador Mikio Mori.

– Peter Tatara is the Founder of Anime NYC and its original Event Director. Tatara is currently the Director of Film at Japan Society.

– MK Goodwin is the current Event Director for Anime NYC and Portfolio Vice President at Leftfield Media.

– Mikio Mori is the Ambassador, Consul-General of Consulate General of Japan, New York.

About Anime NYC:

“Anime NYC has expanded in scale since its establishment in 2017 to become the largest
annual celebration of anime and Japanese pop culture on the East Coast of North America.

Most recently, Anime NYC was held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from November 17th to 19th, 2023, and it attracted approximately 60,000 unique attendees over its three-day duration.

The event further welcomed over 200 Japanese and U.S. companies involved in the
Japanese pop culture world including Aniplex, Bandai Namco, Crunchyroll, Kadokawa, and
Kodansha as well as leading actors, directors, illustrators, and musicians from Japan”
