COMMISSIONER PAT SWINNEY KAUFMAN: So happy that we are doing this. Well, I tend to be happy most of the time anyway! But I do wanna add that I’m particularly happy right now because we have a Mayor who supports New York City’s vibrant creative community.
So that we remain forever and evermore the creative capital of the world!

You know, not everybody is lucky enough to live in the capital of the world. Can you imagine growing up in Charlotte, North Carolina where I did? You’d understand.
This event is a way for MOME and the administration to say thank you to everyone here tonight. And acknowledge your unwavering resilience and your magic because you are why we are the creative capital.

Unfortunately, the mayor was pulled away and unable to join us tonight, but we get to have Deputy Mayor Adolfo Carrión Jr. who oversees the creative economy portfolio.
He’s here to help us pass out these awards. So please join me in welcoming Deputy Mayor Adolfo Carrión Jr!

I will be very brief and say welcome to Gracie Mansion, to the People’s House. I’ve been here many, many times on the stage with the Mayor (Adams). He is so sorry he couldn’t be here with us tonight.
But he always says, ‘Welcome to the People’s House!’ because this home, this public housing, this public mansion belongs to all of us. And it’s so great that you all could be here.
Thank you for being here to help celebrate one of the key and critical industries of New York City, our live performance and theater industry.

I wanna especially thank again, the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment for continuing to further your mission: To support and strengthen New York City’s creative economy and make it accessible to everyone.
We know and especially this crowd knows that culture is the backbone of New York City. And culture is not only a reason why New York City is known throughout the world, it is also a core part of our economy.
And in the 2024 – 2025 season, Broadway hit an all time high for gross income of over $1.8 billion dollars in ticket sales. That’s just from people attending the shows.

It doesn’t include all of the film and TV and music and theater and digital games. The creative industry accounts for about 440,000 local jobs and has an economic impact. You have the economic impact of about $150 billion dollars to New York City.
So thank you, thank you, thank you! These industries combined to make New York City the creative capital of the world.

I am so honored to help bring this community together and celebrate all that you do for New York City and celebrate these amazing, amazing honorees.
I was on Fox 5 this morning with Rosanna Scotto and Dan with LaChanze. I fell in love with LaChanze, I’m gonna say it publicly right now. I just fell in love with her. She is amazing!
And the other honorees like Kenny Sunshine, who’s a dear friend for so many years, so many amazing people that we’re honoring tonight. Welcome to Gracie Mansion! Have a wonderful time and let’s see our honorees now!
