Miss Audrey is still locked away in Mr. Wilford’s heart shaped amulet. Banging on its gold-plated doors with all her might, screaming with the volume muted, unable to escape. Lady paramour found herself in an encore on “Keep Hope Alive” when she promised everyone a curtain call.

This Snowpiercer Season 2 Episode 5 recap “Keep Hope Alive” contains spoilers.

A revolution gone with a smile, one leg up off the ground, whisked away into the fantasy of what an ex-lover can be… But never will be. Miss Audrey turned her back on Andre Layton’s revolution on tonight’s Snowpiercer with the flip of a gate. Despite telling everyone and anyone who would listen that Wilford’s spell on her was over, beneath the mask of confidence was a pushover.

Mutiny lost in a glass of wine. An iron emblemed ‘W’ dilating her pupils. Every emotional pain once inflicted on Audrey is temporarily on hiatus.

In the name of love, Miss Audrey regressed to a doting crush and lost sight of her spy mission. Old habits die hard…

The worst part of making her choice was half heartedly attempting a different path early on “Keep Hope Alive”. Trifling with Wilford’s personal communications box as planned logically, only to give in to what the heart wants.

Wilford recognized the coms box tinkering attempt almost instantly upon examination away from Audrey… And doesn’t take disloyalty at face value, wholesale. There will be a repentance to be paid, the cogs are already turning in Wilford’s mind as to what end.

Whether Audrey suffers Kevin’s fate is the real question. Mr. Wilford already saved Audrey once and claims to feel ‘half alive’ without her by his side.

Meanwhile, Ruth Wardell had the spirit of a wide-eyed puppy being told to stay outside of the house for the night as she watched the big ‘W’ gate close. Everything Ruth ever wanted, within grasp. It took everything for her to not accept Mr. Wilford’s warm invitation to a reunion at Big Alice.

“A Lie for Hope” and as we all know, one lie begets another. Layton asked hospitality’s Ruth Wardell to lie tonight for the good of Snowpiercer’s unity. Though Melanie Cavill is missing in action, the train’s population must never know. Just like the perception of a Mr. Wilford aboard Snowpiercer in the seven years prior.

Hope is a dangerous sedative, it’s an absolutely intoxicating remedy when served right. But withdrawals are the start of uprisings and revolts.

Just as predicated in last week’s Snowpiercer Season 2 Episode 4 recap, the population is starting to question its new leadership. Without Melanie Cavill as both a calming force and to take blame when needed, Layton is now on the hot seat… And it doesn’t look good.

The train’s priest suggested Snowpiercer might be following the wrong Shepard to Bess Till on “Keep Hope Alive”, referring to Layton. LJ Folger’s ambush on Pike on behalf of Terence led to a sit-down man-to-man conversation between Terence and Layton. Terence hinted he would inform Mr. Wilford that Josie Wellstead was not only a patient but a spy and all bets were off.

Layton uncharacteristically followed Zarah Ferami’s advice with a political maneuver on behalf of the Tail. Asking Pike to take out Terence, an act which would later bring him to tears. Pike had sought to leave his demons in the past.

The time for negotiation was over… Pike would claim Terence’s life while giving him a fighting chance. Pike seemed to lose himself in the aftermath, shaving his head in a Shane Walsh kind of way. At the same time, Icy Bob has tried to help and protect Josie. Even keeping quiet about her work as Layton’s unofficial agent aboard Big Alice.

Perhaps, Josie will find herself more at home on Big Alice than she once thought post-treatment…

Then there’s the one unpredictable loose cannon in this cold war. Alexandra Cavill. Whose jealousy at losing Wilford’s favorite status was on full display tonight.

Questioning why she couldn’t meet with LJ Folger when Wilford met with Audrey. Lightly shoving Audrey while exiting the room. Resentment at an unexpected ‘stepmother’ trying to connect.

Once Wilford shines a spotlight on you, the struggle begins to keep it…
