Why it’s none other than Frasier’s ex-wife Lilith! No love lost, as the two divorcees trade barbs back and forth. Dr. Sternin revels in Freddy canceling a night out with his father for her. Then enjoys the ensuing schadenfreude of the revelation that her son has also chosen only to invite his mother to his upcoming birthday party.

Frasier remarks that he’s ‘been stabbed in the back with a knife’ by his son. Freddy promises to make it up to him the day after, leading Frasier to sarcastically comment on how everyone always loves to celebrate big events the next day! ‘The Seis of Mayo’, ‘Easter Monday’, ‘July 5th’.

Thus, Freddy decides to uninvite both parents, lest they spent his whole birthday arguing like when he was a kid.

Frasier believes he’ll upstage Lilith with his birthday present, a pen owned by J. D. Salinger of The Catcher in the Rye fame. Little does Frasier know that it was only Freddy’s favorite novel until he read ‘Oliver Twist’. To top things off, Lilith brings an NFL player from the Patriots’ Super Bowl to sign a football in person.

They grab Frasier’s pen out of his hand and when it doesn’t work, call it ‘a piece of junk’ before slamming it on the ground. Breaking it.

David Crane then starts a trivia game of ‘Who Knows Freddy Best’, which Lilith wins every round of except one… Freddy’s favorite breakfast, as she didn’t know her son had moved in with his father recently. The verbal sparks fly and Freddy asks both his parents to leave.

Lilith goes to Frasier’s place to inspect

Lilith heads over to Frasier’s place to see where her son is living now. She calls it ‘tolerable’ for Freddy, which Frasier sees as ‘high praise’! Lilith and Frasier then share a moment and actually start making out briefly on Freddy’s bed… Before Freddy enters the room with his date in shock.

Freddy’s date promptly leaves out of the weirdness causing him to blame his parents for ruining his birthday twice.
