(2023) Frasier Review: Episode 9 is my least favorite of the reboot, focusing on Frasier’s age and making light of dementia to impress Freddy’s date.

– This Frasier Episode 9 review & recap contains spoilers for “The Fix Is In”.

The setup to Episode 9 is Freddy being embarrassed about living with his father and making up a massive lie that he’s “taking care” of his dad. The lie gets worse and worse as Freddy goes from saying that Frasier isn’t as nimble as he used to be to his father straight up losing his mind.

Say what you will about Frasier as a somewhat absentee father in Freddy’s life, the lie is worse than anything Frasier’s ever done. And all to impress some girl.

A self centered, ungrateful Freddy actually blames his father for taking good care of him and not wanting him to do any menial tasks around the house. Frasier relents and allows Freddy to fix the door bell instead of calling a handy man…

But after Frasier sees Freddy has opened up the wall to find a leak, he gets worried and secretly calls a plumber.

Freddy happens to come home early and plumber Roland attempts to play Frasier’s colleague at Harvard to keep the prodigal son’s pride intact.

However, Roland’s deceptive facade breaks when Freddy comments what he’s going to do to the galvanized pipes under the kitchen sink. Frasier than hurts his knee for real and refuses his son’s help.

Freddy purposefully leaves the refrigerator door open to spite his father not wanting assistance from him. Frasier is forced to get Alan and David to help him and the whole visual is quite depressing.

Everyone who’s watched Boss knows what Kelsey Grammer is capable of as a dramatic actor.

But few watch Frasier to feel sad and that’s just what “The Fix Is In” makes you feel. An entire episode spotlighting Frasier needing his son Freddy’s assistance much like Martin before him.

Frasier’s explanation to Alan about why he doesn’t want his son’s help seems off. They should have gone with the obvious Martin comparison which Alan even says. Meanwhile, Eve talks to Freddy about how he always makes people feel bad when he’s right about something.

Frasier wanting to help out Freddy with a returning date actually goes through with pretending he’s losing his mind. Talking about attacking robots doing this to his knees and picking up a banana to call the President.

Frasier later comments that he “Won’t do this forever”. He should have never done it, his son should have apologized for making up such a lie for a girl. But he never does.
